Taps

A peg in the heart
Driven further and further
Deeper over time
Tap, tap, tap

A drip in the faucet
A creak in the floor
Louder over time
Tap, tap, tap

A tear in the wallpaper
A leak in the sink
Angrier over time
Tap, tap, tap

A dog in a cage
A man on the run
Harder over time
Tap, tap, tap

A dimming light
A waning moon
Darker over time
Tap, tap, tap

Gin Dizzy

Spun deep
Like yarn
On a spindle
Textile feeling
The rough
Of the wool
Fibers connecting
All that is left
And wheels driving
Out the last breath

Empty becomes
Shoddy resolutions
Fervent scrambling
To find
What’s not lost
Under the bed
In a messy apartment
Hide all the butts,
Gin Dizzy,
Cover the holes

Bare Feet

Plumes of poignant airs
Billowing up from calloused soles
Hiding the unknown
Tucked sadly underneath

Glass crushed by bare feet
Patterns still worth mending
Sometimes the only need
A little understanding

But don’t lock it in a bottle
To set out in murky water
Only to be intercepted
By those who are not indebted

Follow the signs but not the grain
Exhausted by the paddling
The destination still the same
No matter what we tame

Holed Up

Time keeps running away,
And it looks like the snow
Is here to stay.
Will we ever see the grass again?

Holed up for too many days,
Through the window
All that’s seen is grey.
But how long can the sun stay away?

All of the days are getting shorter,
And every one
Feels closer to the border.
At the darkest time of year, who’s in your corner?

Although there’s much less light,
Still fighting the bite
Of sleep every night.
Is there anything left that is right?

Bath Time Head Case

Some days I don’t bathe
And really that’s okay.
Why should I waste
This precious water away?

Though on other days,
From under the sun’s rays,
Crud fills my face
No matter where I play.

But mud pies do not taste,
And soap will not erase
This fast-pasted head case
Of life that is not a race.

Tuesday Girl

Saturday came knockin’
But couldn’t tell her no
I told you she’s one
Of the Devil’s daughters

Hands to yourself
But your mind still lingers
On Saturday’s curves
And yesterday’s nightmares

When Tuesday comes
You barely recognize
Because Saturday’s stench
Still drowns your bleary eyes

Yet Tuesday waits
Proud in her freckled skin
Knowing Saturday is temporary
And Tuesday never forgets

Nothing

Nothing moves faster than the speed of light,
But we’re moving at the speed of nothing.
Atoms rip apart,
And black holes surge.

Energy is not lost,
But where is all ours going?
Particles erupting
From an unstable purity.

Antimatter, canceling out thoughts,
Playing chicken in the mind.
One wrong swerve, a collision course to nothing,
And proving what can’t be disproved.

Magic Dreams

Two tired mermaids
Lay on Seal Rock
Crashing sun and white water
Against their salty skin

Secrets weren’t on their lips
But they whispered anyways
For the sake of friendship tales
Locking fishtails instead of pinkies

Greens, blues, yellow hues
They dream because they can
Giving themselves up to magic
And floating through the tide’s enchantment

Somewhere farther down
Fishermen lurk with pointy hooks
Lusting over the catch
Different dreams mounted on those walls

Though they’ll never net the mystic friends
Because they do not dream
Or believe in magic
Those imaginations, crushed by the swell

No Need

Sharing glances of understanding
No need for words in our abandoning
Passing buildings of endings
And roads of new beginnings

Glancing, rubble eyeing from afar
Bank rolling thin, but no need from a car
Giggling sunshine cheeks brighter than a star
Mind keeping secrets in a jar

Crashing waves against skin
And March reeling winter in
While the seals’ barking begins
And, too, our own shelling from within

Soaring trees shaking down seeds
Coasting west of ancient needs
Glittering reeds of salted beads
Fleeing shores of misty deeds

Tall standing on dinosaur bones
Mounting firmly on a nature throne
No need for shining tones
All mother’s generous loans

Washing pearled sand from long-grown hair
And tangling feet in kelpy lairs
Enjoying pairs of sleepy dares
Mashing tracks of unknown cares

No need for tracing solemn agenda
Wondering over the next contender
Living easily in boring splendor
Enjoying ages of raw adventure

No Need
